I just ripped this 1962 album for my dad’s Christmas. It was recorded between 1954 and 1956 and the quality is brilliant. It must be amazing to play in such a swinging band!
This was a record that we grew up with in the Thoumire household. On the first track there is a bit where nearly the whole band stops playing and the clarinet takes a solo and I’ve always loved it! I have been very lucky to have been brought with parents (especially my dad) who listened (and still does) to so many different styles of music. New Orleans jazz is just one genre.
Needless to say I’m trying my best to frustrate my children the way my dad did to me (by playing lots of music I didn’t like!) Hopefully like me they will come to love it all! Check out the Kid Ory CD below.
