I’m sitting in World Academy of Music and Dance in Limerick writing this. I’m working with the undergrads of the trad music BA course preparing 4 sets of tunes for their concert in April. As usual you are not really sure what to expect apart from you know that all the musicians are fantastic at trad music! There are 70 musicians in the class – a mixture of flutes, fiddles, accordions, guitars, banjos, harps, concertinas, whistles, pipes, bodhrans, harps and mandolins. We have one more set to go this afternoon and I’m excited to see what will happen! I’ll post results next week 🙂
I was also teaching at Newcastle University as well – a composition class and a great young concertina player called Andrew Parr. Busy week.
Luckily I managed to write my #makegoodart piece on Sunday! It’s based on George Wyllie’s Running Clock outside Buchanan Street Bus Station. I often imagine what if the legs started started moving and went for a run down Buchanan Street. What would they see, hear and what commotion would they cause?? I think I was also imagining that the legs ran past George’s ‘Monument to Maternity’ (paper clip) another fantastic artwork! This is a piece of music in honour of George Wyllie. Have a listen 🙂
