I’m a fan of making records. I’m not a fan though of hanging around studios! I do like them as spaces but I don’t really find them ‘creative’ spaces. I like to go into a studio prepared, well rehearsed having had most of the ideas/arrangements beforehand!
I love the process of rehearsing though. I love having an idea and presenting it to the band/duo partner who then get their own spin on it. When practising for Ian Carr and I’s ‘He Thinks He’s Invisible‘ record it was brilliant when he kicked in with some fantabulous chords or rhythm idea. Ian also loves to practise (possibly more than me) and we he gets started on something he doesn’t give up until there is a satisfactory conclusion long after I’ve given up the ghost!
We spent a lot of time practising for the record and then recorded pretty quickly to try and capture the live feel. It will be out soon so I’m sure I’ll be talking about it much more 🙂
