It’s an amazing time in Scotland at the moment. Everyone is talking about the way forward and it’s exciting. I was part last night of a concert called Songs for Scotland put on by Kevin Brown and Bella Caledonia. It was billed as a night of aspirational songs with singers chosen from the diaspora of Scottish culture. There was folk, rap, Gaelic rap, beat boxing, indy songs and much more. The thing that held us all together is we want a better Scotland – an independent Scotland that can make its own decisions, a country that can look after and understand our own people and make decisions that are good for us. Everybody performing was cheered to the rafters of the Oran Mor concert hall (Glasgow) and the concert finished to a standing ovation from the capacity crowd. It was so positive!
I’m fed up of the no aspirational politics of the better together campaign. As someone asked in one of the TV debates – “if we’re better together why are we not better together now”? For me independence is not about oil it is about our people. Yes Scotland will be one of the richest countries in the world however we can make a difference to our people living in Scotland with all the powers we will have in an independent nation.
So why two reels? Well Scotland is swinging at the moment. There’s an amazing vibe amongst the people – its like we’re all dancing. Swinging reels are a positive force and it takes us above the constant non aspirational negativity of the Better Together campaign. Britain has had its chance to make our lives better. Now it is the turn of the Scots.
