I find it interesting as the weeks go on the technique of how I continue to make new pieces of music. How do I make something different from the week before is one of the questions I continuously ask myself. How can I sound completely different? I’m not looking to make something wonderful – it’s more about the idea behind it. Still it’s difficult to continue to create.
I subscribe to the Brain Pickings newsletter which appears in my inbox every Sunday morning and a couple of weeks ago there was an article on getting lost (creatively). It was quoting the book ‘Field Guide to Getting Lost’ by Rebecca Solnit and it is looking at how a musician (in my case) can disappear off the page into territory that is unknown forcing me to try something completely new. At the same time I had been talking to pianist Dave Milligan about practising new techniques that are very different to your own style again making you think in different ways. In short it is difficult but it is a very interesting experiment.
For this weeks #makegoodart I don’t think I have managed the above but I have started with a very simple idea and expanded on it to see what happens. Thanks for listening. More #makegoodart http://simonthoumire.com/make-good-art/
